It seems google is teaming up with NORAD to give a better picture to all the kids out there.

Want to know what time Santa will be touching down Christmas Eve to fill your stockings and drink the glass of milk you've left him?

Google Inc. is teaming up with Norad, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, to help you make your holiday visit calculations this year. Google announced Tuesday afternoon that children -- and even all the big kids out there -- will be able to track St. Nick's journey around the world using Google Maps and Google Earth.

"The partnership between Google and Norad to bring the Norad Tracks Santa Program to children around the world has been a perfect fit," said Stacia Reddish, a Norad Tracks Santa program manager. "Google has the server power needed for the program, and the fabulous people required in the mapping arena to ensure children know where Santa will be as he makes his trek around the globe."

So how do you track Santa? Go to www.noradsanta.org. They have all the fun and details so you and yours can know the whereabouts of St. Nick this year. :)

So I have had an itch as of late, to try out something new. Ever heard of Usenet? Well from Wikipedia:

Usenet (a contraction of user network) is a global, decentralized, distributed Internet discussion system that evolved from a general purpose UUCP architecture of the same name. It was conceived by Duke University graduate students Tom Truscott and Jim Ellis in 1979. Users read and post public messages (called articles or posts, and collectively termed news) to one or more categories, known as newsgroups. Usenet resembles bulletin board systems (BBS) in most respects, and is the precursor to the various web forums which are widely used today. Discussions are threaded, with modern news reader software, as with web forums and BBSes, though posts are stored on the server sequentially.

Sounds like an interesting place, don't it? Now getting to it is the trick. Internet providers sometimes have access to newsgroups, but if they do it is usually limited. Then the only thing you can do is find a service provider. Who?

That is where Newsdemon.com Newsgroups comes in. I have done a little digging, and asked some friends about who they recommend. They suggested Newsdemon. It has great rates with fast speeds! I wanna try it out myself, but from the looks of it Newsdemon is for the novice and the advanced user. It has plans and rates for anyone, with the prices very reasonable. They have 24/7 support if any problems do arise.

It seems to me Newsdemon.com Newsgroups is the choice for price, speed, and support.

I really want to try them out.

So it is either Clinton/Obama vs. McCain this fall. Ya know, 8 years ago I would have voted for McCain. He didn't flip flop as much back then... but I wouldn't vote for him now since he hitched his wagon to Dubya. Who would have thought he would be the Republican nominee?

I will be voting for the Dem this fall, but it seems pointless since my state always goes red. Really, that sucks. We need to get rid of the electoral college and let the one with the most votes win.

I am going to go on a movie search to post something... so I shall return. This is only temporary though... :)

Okee dokee, lets look at this meme thing Katie and defenestrated got going. So what do I have to do?

Um, ok... here I go.

I am not much of a music person anymore. I don't mind music, but I like things to be quiet now. Don't know when this happened, but it is how I am now.
I owned the greatest cat in the world when I was a kid. We named her Pepper, and she showed up on my parents doorstep when I was 4. She was very independent, a great hunter, tough, and she preferred my brother and I more than my parents. She lived a long life, and died when I was about 22.
I like amusement parks, but I really don't get the point of waiting in hour long lines for a 2 minute max ride. So I don't go much.
I can't bluff at all in poker.
I talk to the wife of my brother more than my brother. Why? My brother and I are just not talkers, but she is.
I never tried Vodka till I was 29. When I was 19, I had my first experience with hard alcohol, and drank way too much and regret what happened afterwards (even though I blacked out so I don't remember.) After that I just stuck to beer, because I couldn't stomach (literally) any hard alcohol.
I love movies, and I like silly/stupid comedies. I don't like all stupid comedies though... like anything with that Get R Done guy are just too dumb for my taste.
I took 6 years worth of spanish lessons, but still can hardly speak the language. I can sorta read it, and can hear something and understand it... but I just can't speak it.

Ok that's it. I am not tagging anyone, but hey if anyone still visits this site, feel free to do one yourself. I am going back into my anti-blogging anti-social seclusion... so see ya in a few weeks or so. Bye! :)

Hello! Hey remember when I took that summer off blogging? Yea, good times... good times.

I am here but not here. I will be filling out a meme, but probably going back into isolation again. What can I say? I am just antisocial right now! :)

Yea, I like jokes just as much as the next guy, but when kids get confused I tend to draw a line. From the Indy Star:

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) -- Confusing signs on the bathroom doors at McGuire's Irish Pub have played jokes on customers for years, sending women to the men's room and vice versa.

But the father of a girl who was interrupted by a man in the women's room and Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation don't find the signs funny.

The agency recently threatened the Panhandle tourist landmark with closure for "Lack of signage properly designating bathrooms."

Here are the signs in question.

The state took action after the father filed a complaint, which said his 15-year-old daughter was embarrassed and left the restaurant crying after the bathroom incident.

General Manager Billy Martin has removed the signs at his Destin pub, but left them at his original pub in Pensacola.

"We're not trying to be malicious," Martin told the Northwest Florida Daily News. "It's an Irish joke kind of thing."

I would be fine with the signs if it were just adults getting confused (it would be hilarious,) but I don't like the idea of kids getting confused and being the butt of jokes. Sorry, bad pun.

Money only goes so far, so high gas prices are hurting some businesses. From Fox 28:

As gas prices continue to rise, more people are looking for ways to save some cash. It appears that in addition to limiting how much they drive, people are not eating out as much.

One restaurant in Elkhart is starting to feel the pinch.

Peggy Flora, Manager at Callahan's says, "Maybe 10 to 20 percent right now, if it continues going up, it's going to be more."

According to Flora, that's how much business has dropped since gas prices started going up.

Gas prices in Michiana are ranging between $3.30 and $3.40 a gallon which means people are looking for ways to save.

Well it is only expected people to stop spending for extras when they have to break the bank for high gas prices. I really want a Prius!

Another dumb criminal... who thought he could speed his way out of a ticket. From the Indystar:

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Police said a motorcyclist led them on an interstate highway chase at speeds of up to 150 mph and left them in the dust. But they had the cycle's license number and cited Ryan Lewis, 19, of Eugene after going to his home and finding the motorcycle hidden behind his house.

Oregon State Police Capt. Calvin Curths said he was in an unmarked car in a construction zone on Interstate 5 Monday evening when the motorcycle sped past him. He said he measured the speed at 72 mph in a 50-mph zone, accelerating to as much as 150 mph before police gave up the chase.

Lewis was cited for reckless driving and eluding an officer.

Remember kiddies: don't drink and drive, don't speed, and don't try to out run the cops.

Time for some horror... from a classic horror movie. Night of the Living Dead from 1968 is a lot different from the recent remakes, and I kinda like this style better.

It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder. A widespread investigation of funeral homes, morgues, and hospitals has concluded that the unburied dead have been returning to life and seeking human victims. It's hard for us here to be reporting this to you, but it does seem to be a fact.

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. -- A Burger King restaurant made a king-size mistake that has caused a royal headache for a South Carolina woman.

A restaurant worker accidentally charged her more than $8,000 for a meal, reported WYFF-TV in Greenville, S.C.

Now the restaurant is trying to correct the error.

The mistake happened at a Burger King location in Fountain Inn, S.C., on Thursday of last week.

Guadalupe Pequino bought $8.64 worth of food at the drive-in window and paid with her Visa check card, issued by Bank of America.

Because the total was entered twice, Pequino's receipt showed she was charged $8,648.64.

The really sad part of the story is that the fries were cold...

Dumb Indiana Criminal Found At Scene Of The Crime

A man found trapped unconscious beneath a 1,000-pound tombstone in a cemetery faces charges and might have to pay for damages, police said.

Michael David Schreiber, 22, has both legs broken beneath the stone, Merrillville Officer Ray Smith said. The Merrillville man faces charges of criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and public intoxication, police said.

Wow, alcohol was involved... isn't that shocking??? I bet money that before the accident he said, "Hey Watch This!"

His condition was not immediately available Tuesday morning, a nursing supervisor at Methodist Hospitals said.

It took five officers to remove the headstone from Schreiber's body Sunday morning at Calumet Park Cemetery in the northwestern Indiana town, Smith said. The family name at the top of the headstone left its mark on the suspect.

"The letter V left an imprint on Schreiber's thigh," Smith said.

Besides facing criminal charges, Schreiber may be ordered to pay for damage to 14 headstones, Police Chief Nicholas Bravos said. Estimated damage totaled about $8,400, Bravos said.

Schreiber told police he and a companion had been drinking before going to the cemetery.

He estimated he had been trapped under the headstone for more than three hours before police arrived, Bravos said.

Mike Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame is bringing the funny to movies again! Check this out from the NY Times:

WHEN “Mystery Science Theater 3000” was canceled after 11 seasons in 1999, 146 distraught fans bought a full-page advertisement in Daily Variety urging another network to continue the show. But the series was not revived, and today devotees cannot even tune in to reruns because its premise — a host and his two robot pals mock B movies — required securing those movies’ broadcast rights, which expired after the show’s demise.

But those self-described “Misties” are welcoming a resurrection of sorts. Mike Nelson, the show’s longtime host and head writer, has begun a new venture called RiffTrax, and he can now skewer virtually any movie without infringing on copyrights. Recordings of him talking back at movies can be downloaded (for fees ranging from 99 cents to $3.99) from rifftrax.com. Start playing the DVD or VHS version of the movie and Mr. Nelson’s commentary simultaneously, and the effect is that of a director commenting on a DVD — except that Mr. Nelson is inclined to say, as he does during a scene in “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” in which William Shatner climbs a mountain, “He’s actually trying to scale his own ego.”

So far there are more than 30 RiffTrax episodes, including “The Matrix” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” with Mr. Nelson adding three or four more titles every month. He said in a phone interview from San Diego, where he lives, that “hundreds of thousands” of the files have been purchased for download so far. (A spokesman for Legend Films, which produces RiffTrax, declined to clarify or confirm Mr. Nelson’s claim, saying the company considers sales figures proprietary.)

Ok, grab your popcorn and beer for this flick! Back in the 90's, I became a huge fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (the tv show), and they made a MOVIE! Sadly, I didn't get to catch this at the movie theater, and to this day I feel like I missed out.

Gas Hitting Highs In South Bend

Yea, gas prices suck. From WSBT TV:

Drivers are experiencing sticker shock at the pump. Gas prices have topped $3 per gallon at many places. One expert thinks he knows what might bring those prices back down.

“It hurts, it hurts. I stay home a lot,” exclaimed driver Glenda Shelley.

The highest recorded price by AAA for regular unleaded gas in Indiana stands at $3.19. It’s the same price we found at most gas stations in South Bend Thursday.

“The gas prices are too high,” added driver Ben Swanson.

Experts say gas prices usually increase this time of year. Due to environmental regulations, it's the time when gas companies switch from their winter to their summer blends.

Don't expect much to change this summer, because $4 gas was predicted by Bloomberg.

Seriously, this creeps me out beyond words. From Yahoo News:

These guys weren't exactly Snap, Crackle and Pop. What began as a faint popping in a 9-year-old boy's ear — "like Rice Krispies" — ended up as an earache, and the doctor's diagnosis was that a pair of spiders made a home in the ear.

"They were walking on my eardrums," Jesse Courtney said.

I may never sleep again...

One of the spiders was still alive after the doctor flushed the fourth-grader's left ear canal. His mother, Diane Courtney, said her son insisted he kept hearing a faint popping in his ear — "like Rice Krispies."

Dr. David Irvine said it looked like the boy had something in his ear when he examined him.

When he irrigated the ear, the first spider came out, dead. The other spider took a second dousing before it emerged, still alive. Both were about the size of a pencil eraser.

Jesse was given the spiders — now both dead — as a souvenir. He has taken them to school and his mother has taken them to work.

"It was real interesting, 'cause, two spiders in my ear — what next?" Jesse said.

It would be an understatement to say that I hate spiders. I am getting earplugs to wear to bed now.
